Delano, Kern County
Delano began in 1873 as the end of the line for the Southern Pacific, which paused construction here for a time, and was named for Columbus Delano, then Secretary of the Interior. The city lies in Kern County about thirty miles north of Bakersfield on Highway 99. Vineyards of table grapes stretch in every direction, along with almond and citrus orchards.
